The role

As a Strategic Design Lead in the Outware team, you must be passionate about all aspects of experience design, from how we unlock value for clients through their strategic roadmap right through to the smallest implementation details that make an individual product really great to use. Importantly, you will have a relentless passion for evidence lead design, ensuring product inception, development and improvement is consistent with strategic and consumer research insights.

You will also possess extremely strong leadership skills to motivate and lead multi-discipline teams of designers across Australia.

Your specific responsibilities will include:

Experience Strategy

  • Demonstrate cross-channel thought leadership to our clients, driving uplift in their overall customer experience
  • Undertake research-led journey mapping activities to drive a deep understand of consumer behaviour for our clients
  • Working closely with clients and project teams on creating and maintaining effective product roadmaps as required

Design Delivery

  • Leading on-site design squads as required to build consumer facing experiences
  • Preparing and facilitating discovery workshops as required to gather client and customers insights that support product development e.g discovery workshops, design sprints
  • Proactively engaging senior stakeholders at all stages of the product development lifecycle
  • Collaborating with our Agile development teams, ensuring our design workflows and ways of working are coordinated across disciplines for efficient delivery
  • Ensuring design artifacts are delivered to exceptional standards and our designs are always rationalised (and deep understanding of mobile design patterns is preferential)
  • Working closely with programme leads and senior technical leads to inform the overall design programme of work, helping to proactively manage design dependencies as required

Practice Development

  • Contribute to Outware’s long-term Design Strategy, informing the practice’s direction and service offering through competitor analysis, enterprise design trends and long-term capability building
  • Actively contribute to building our knowledge base and design workflow for the team, informed by the latest design patterns, techniques and tools
  • Build key relationship with other leaders across Outware from Sales through to Development and Innovation, helping to drive a more cohesive design service offering
  • Play a key part in building on our design community engagement

Team Leadership

  • Form a key part of our Outware Design Leadership Forum, helping to progress a range of strategic and operational initiatives
  • Work closely with direct design reports to plan their career development paths, areas for development and future goals
  • Informal mentoring across the design practice as required, to share knowledge, contribute to best practice adoption and drive our culture

What do we look for in a suitable candidate?

  • Tertiary qualifications  in design, psychology, strategy or another relevant field
  • Significant experience in a relevant industry, leading design teams on large digital transformation projects (mobile experience is a preference).
  • An outstanding portfolio of work demonstrating strong human-centered design capabilities across a diverse range of projects
  • Experience building new design capabilities in teams
  • A background with qualitative and quantitative research, divergent and convergent ideation, product prototyping and testing, future visioning and product strategy development
